This was a memorable year for Steve, getting his first large mule deer after many years of hunting in Colorado. He and Barb hunted for two days in conjunction with friend, Terry. Steve passed on several bucks opening day, waiting for one of the larger mule deer he and Terry had seen scouting.
We awoke Sunday morning to 3" fresh snow. The wait was well worth it when we spotted this animal!

The new game trailer Steve assembled worked great.

Steve decided he wanted to have this 5 x 5 buck mounted.
Mike and Dale Laird came over to help Steve prepare the buck for the taxidermist - cape the animal for a shoulder mount.
|
|
Our friend, JoAnn, called to ask if she could bring her buck over to have Steve help her process it.
When she arrived with Stephanie and Pat, these trophies were in the back of their truck!
That's Stephanie's buck on the left and JoAnn's on the right.

Pat and Stephanie scored Steve's buck - 179 7/8. Daughter, Cassie, watched.

All 3 big bucks were caped for taking to the taxidermist for mounting.
JoAnn's scored 172. Stephanie's scored 188.
What a terrific weekend for big bucks in the Uncompahgre Valley!

Then Monday afternoon, Steve went out with Terry and here's another nice 5x5 that Terry found!

After Pat & Stephanie saw the photos of Terry's buck they emailed us these photos they had taken of the same animal just a few days earlier. They named him Rico Suave and he was Stephanie's 2nd choice!
