Steve's 60th Birthday
Raft Trip

To celebrate Steve's 60th birthday Sean & Laurie brought their new raft over and
treated us to trip rafting the Lake Fork of the Gunnison River!
|
|
Here's Steve eagerly waiting for Sean & Laurie to meet us at Blue Mesa Reservoir. They drove over that morning from Littleton.
Then we drove to the take-out point to leave
a car, then 12 miles up river to our starting point.

Uh-oh! Looks too low - have to carry
the raft around!

But that wasn't to be the only bridge we had to go under or obstacle to maneuver around!

Nothing like a picnic in the middle of a river!

There were LOTS of leaning trees!
Some we could go around -
some we had to duck under!
|
|
|

Even a Trout crossing!
The final bridge is at the Gate Campground,
our take-out point.

|
What a great trip!
Then a scenic drive along the North Rim of the Black Canyon on to Hotchkiss
and Zack's BBQ for birthday dinner!

We head to Fort Carson in Colorado Springs for a retirement briefing... Steve received his orders to retire from the US Army following 22 1/2 years in the Army National Guard and 15 years in the Reserves. He retires as a Major with 37 1/2 combined years of service ... |

Then on to Denver for a June birthdays/Father's Day party with Barb's family...
Then on to Kankakee for a birthday/anniversary/Father's Day celebration with Steve's Illinois family!
