Imogene Pass

July 27, 2007

At last, we made it to the summit!
What a view from 13,114 feet!

Looking back toward Yankee Boy Basin
and the climb up to the summit.

Looking toward Telluride and Tomboy town site.
In the distance you can see the runway of the
Telluride airport - highlighted by sunshine.

The road down off the summit.

See those dark clouds?
Yep, it started raining as we descended from the summit.
The rest of the trip was in the rain, which got a little "hairy" on the old road!

A couple of local whistlers!

<--- Pica

Marmot --->

The town site of Tomboy. At it's peak, the town supported 900 people.

<--- As it appeared in 1909

As it appears in 2007 --->

Looking across to the Tomboy Mine. You see the road winding along the mountainside.

Despite the rain, we just had to stop to capture the beauty. The white spots you see on the rest of the photos are raindrops on the camera lens!

One of the old buildings with the Tomboy Mine,

Looking below - between storms clouds - you get a view of the 385 ft Bridal Veil Falls and the zig-zag Jeep road from Black Bear Pass dropping down into Telluride.

The road
passes
through
Social Tunnel

<--- Now

Then --->

Waterfalls of rain cascaded down the rock face and turned the road into a river!

At last, Telluride isn't too far.

Now, if we can just make the rest of the drive down this stream - I mean, road!
