Barb's First Deer Hunt
October 2004 - Halloween
After Barb's successful first hunt last year - bagging a cow elk - she was hooked on hunting. So, this year she decided to try a deer hunt. On Halloween, using Steve's 30.06 bolt-action rifle, she bagged a nice 4-point buck mule deer, but I'm getting ahead of myself...
We found a nice spot where we scouted many mule deer. Sean, Steve and Barb built a blind with hay bales where Barb might get a 100-200 yard shot.

Here's the view Barb had from the blind of a few does.
About 3:20 in the afternoon the nice 4-point buck we had spotted while scouting walked out of the trees.
Barb held on him, fired, and he dropped instantly! The other bucks and does in the vicinity scattered every which way. Steve said, "He dropped!" But having fallen into the sage brush we couldn't see him down from the blind and couldn't confirm whether he was dead yet.

So, Barb headed out to check.
She did it! One shot through the heart and he had died instantly.

Hunting guide Subby was so proud!

Sean (Barb's son) was watching his first hunt and came down to help us.
Back in the garage the "hunt team" celebrated their victory!

Then the meat processing began!

Our friend & neighbor, Terry Nimmons, came down to help with the butchering and grinding party.
